Here at Baie Botanique we are proud to be a PETA certified Vegan and Cruelty-Free skincare brand. But is it easy to change to a completely cruelty-free beauty routine? It might take a while, but it is possible and we are here to help with our top 6 tips for making the switch.

RESEARCH THE BRANDS

First things first, find out which products are cruelty-free and which ones have been tested on animals. There are many comprehensive lists online which tell you which brands to use or not, so do your research before you buy.

You can search for cruelty-free brands on PETA’s website

GRADUALLY CHANGE YOUR PRODUCTS

Your skin can benefit from the gentle introduction of new products

If you have a few products by brands that are not cruelty-free, don’t throw them away. Finish them up and then replace them with a cruelty-free brand next time you shop for them. It’s not very eco-friendly to throw away half full products, so the earth will thank you for the slower change over. Also, if you have been using the same products for a long time your skin can benefit from the gentle introduction of new products, especially if you have sensitive skin.

FIND THE BUNNY

Products that are cruelty-free are marked with a bunny logo, so make sure you read the information on the product you are buying to see if it says it is cruelty-free. Some will say “Not Tested on Animals” instead so you may need to read the information more thoroughly to find it.

WATCH OUT FOR PARENT COMPANIES

Although the brand you are buying from may not test on animals themselves, sometimes their “parent company” does. Gemima from The Lovely Witches explains more about animal testing and parent companies on her blog.

DON’T FORGET YOUR TOOTHPASTE

If you want to switch your beauty routine to cruelty-free, don’t forget your essentials such as toothpaste, deodorant and mouthwash. Most of these are tested on animals, so make sure you look out for the cruelty-free bunny symbol on the ones you plan to buy.

READ CRUELTY-FREE BLOGS

You don’t have to go it alone, there are plenty of blogs and websites out there with tips and information about going cruelty-free such as The Lovely WitchesLogical HarmonyPETA and The Leaping Bunny. Take a read of them and you’ll find it much easier to get your head around all the cruelty-free information.
