Protect Your Skin From Sun Damage

Protect-skin-sun

Here in Britain, we are known for drizzly, gloomy summers that don’t see much sun, but this year we seem to have been lucky with some glorious sunshine and hot weather.

Although summer is coming to an end, it is always important to protect your skin from sun damage no matter what season it is.

It’s also a good idea to use a high SPF sunscreen on your face all year round to avoid sun damage and signs of ageing. Exposure to UV radiation can make skin look dry, wrinkled, loose and dull, as the skin’s ageing process is accelerated. More dangerously, it can cause changes in the skin cells, which can lead to skin cancer.

Everyone should look after their skin in the sun, but you should take extra care if you are pale, have freckles, have red hair, tend to burn, have a lot of moles, or have a family history of skin cancer.

Some exposure to the sun is important to help the body make vitamin D, but you should make sure your skin is exposed safely. You should cover up, stay in the shade, and make sure to apply sunscreen throughout the day.

For more information on protecting your skin from sun damage, take a look at Cancer Research UK and the NHS website.
